Design Inspiration: 2015’s Colour of the Year – Marsala

Colour of the Year - Marsala

The colour experts at Pantone have now released their colour of the year for 2015: Marsala, which the institute describes as a ‘naturally robust and earthy red’. The name ‘Marsala’ reflects the famous fortified wine, though most specifically the ‘Rubino’ version – which, like Pantone’s offering, is a deep, ruby colour.

Pantone Colour Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman comments: “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while it’s grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

‘This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.’

The idea of using a deep red within the home might seem daunting a first, but this delightfully rich shade can bring warmth, elegance and flair to your surroundings. A kitchen island painted in a rosy cranberry shade like Farrow & Ball’s Radicchio would make an attractive centrepiece (as in our ‘Flair’ Inspiration); alternatively, upholster chairs in crimson tones, or accessorise with ruby kitchenware, drapery and tiles, to create a fashionable yet subtle ambience.

Solid Oak Kitchens on Screen!

Solid Oak Kitchens on Screen Soon!

We’re delighted to announce that for the last few weeks we’ve been working on a top-secret project: our very own Joseph & Kingsley video!

This video will, we hope, give greater insight into the quality of our products and design service; allowing customers who are browsing at home to really get a sense of who we are without needing to move a muscle.

Though the video is still a work in progress, we can tell you that we were lucky enough to shoot solid oak kitchens ‘on location’ at a customer’s house in the Cotswolds, as well as filming segments near to our flagship showroom in Cheltenham. There may even be a cameo from one of our designers (but you’ll have to wait and see!)

Stay tuned for the grand premiere…we’ll be sure share the video with you as soon as it’s live, so do keep checking in on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.

Design Inspiration: Vintage Christmas

Christmas is nothing if not a time for nostalgia; whether that means revelling in tried-and-tested traditions, watching classic black-and-white films, or reminiscing about festive memories from one’s childhood, there is undoubtedly something charming about looking back as a new year approaches.

The ‘vintage’ approach to decoration can be a perfect reflection of this seasonal mood. From glitzy Art Deco ornaments to hurricane lamps, as well as patterned pendants and glass garlands, there are plenty of options if you wish to include some nostalgic glamour within your festive scheme.

There is no need to confine decoration to the living room or hall; there are plenty of ways in which to involve this aesthetic throughout the house (including luxury kitchens). We recommend favouring candlelight wherever possible, utilising jam jars or glass tealight holders for a vintage look. Purchase a miniature potted tree and decorate this with rustic wooden ornaments and a mercurised tree topper: this will make an attractive centrepiece for a kitchen countertop or dining table. Finally, trim mantles, windowsills and bannisters with real evergreen garlands, festive ribbons and pine cones. Tradition has never looked so stylish!
