Luxury Kitchens in Cheltenham: Montpellier Day

Joseph & Kingsley are proud to be part of the Cheltenham community and have always enjoyed our location in the heart of beautiful Montpellier. Ahead of this weekend’s popular ‘Montpellier Day’, which takes place on the 28th June, we thought you might like to learn a little about what makes this fantastic neighbourhood so special.

Henry Thompson is thought to be the founder of Montpellier. He purchased the site in 1801 and began to develop the area, beginning with his own house in Vittoria Walk and the Montpellier Spa in 1809. Trees, ‘walks and rides’ followed and the wonderful Montpellier Gardens – now the site of Cheltenham’s many festivals – were created. Finally, a plethora of shops – including the famous Montpellier Arcade – were established in the 1830s and 1840s.

We are situated in close proximity to Montpellier Walk (Montpellier Avenue), which has long been lauded for its elegance: mingling classic architecture – caryatids, cornices and porticos – with urban sophistication. The quirky collection of boutiques, restaurants, bars and interiors retailers make this an incredibly popular shopping destination.

This Saturday’s Montpellier Day aims to celebrate the diversity of the area with a sort of ‘street carnival’; there will be classic cars, wonderful food and even a dog show! The roads will be closed and there will be plenty going on throughout the day. Well worth a visit.

And of course, if you are in the area – on the 28th June or at any other time – please do pop in and see us: Montpellier really is a great place to spend some time, particularly for shopping. Our showroom is conveniently located just across from Montpellier Gardens and our local, friendly team will be on hand to discuss anything about our luxury kitchens and to give you a tour. We hope to see you!

Design Inspiration: Brazil

The planet is alive with the buzz of the World Cup, and the world of interiors is no different – designers are urging us to bring some Brazilian flair into our homes this summer.

Bright colours, flamboyant prints and exotic accessories are key: introduce hot pinks and oranges and vivid greens into your kitchen for a carnival atmosphere. Evoke the explorer within you by incorporating a cosmopolitan vibe – glossy green plants, travellers’ trunks and global accessories will all be popular this year. Striking patterns that incorporate exotic birds and a prevalence of natural materials – bamboo and wicker in particular – will create that natural yet joyous spirit that Brazil, and in particular the city of Rio, is known for.

Emphasise harmony above all, whatever design features you opt for: after all, the official slogan of this World Cup is ‘juntos num so ritmo’ (all in one rhythm)!

Celebrating the Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival 2014: Free Cookery Demo and Tasting

Celebrating the Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival 2014: Free Cookery Demo and TastingTo create unique luxury kitchens we must look beyond the furniture: the appliances and finishing touches also play an important role. As such, Joseph & Kingsley are proud to work with a range of acclaimed appliance providers, from AGA Rangemaster to Neff, Falcon and Mercury; these appliances not only function to a very high level but also make an attractive aesthetic addition. Indeed, a stunning purple Mercury induction range cooker is one of the centrepieces of our Cheltenham showroom – so we thought it was time that we put it to good use!

On Saturday 14th June 2014 we will be holding a complimentary cookery demonstration and tasting at the showroom, and warmly welcome all visitors. Our chef – who is an expert in induction and range cooking – will be utilising our Mercury range oven to cook some tasty nibbles for you to try throughout the day, and will also be on hand to answer any questions that you may have about these fabulous appliances. Finish up your visit by chatting to one of our kitchen designers and enjoy a stroll round the showroom with a free glass of fizz!

Our showroom is located in the heart of Montpellier, adjacent to the Montpellier Gardens; as such it is extremely convenient for visiting the popular Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival, which will also be occurring over this weekend. Why not make a ‘foodie’ weekend of it? We invite you to stop by any time between 10am and 3pm.

Design Inspiration: Brass

As a featured material within interiors, brass is notoriously difficult to ‘get right’. When used indiscriminately without proper consideration of the suitability of the material, it can look tacky; however, when used with sensitivity, it can imbue a room with vintage elegance.

Less can sometimes be more. To begin with, think of where you can introduce accents of brass: gorgeous handmade handles or taps, for example, look wonderful within solid oak kitchens that favour a stark colour scheme (go for off-white, dark blue, or cool, earthy tones); alternatively, choose a heavy brass lampshade or table lamp for some atmospheric ornamentation.

Look for warmer, softer shades of brass if you want to avoid a harsh look. Or, if you’d like something with a similar feel, try hammered bronze.
