Islands for Oak Kitchens: A Popular Look in 2014

The popularity of the kitchen continues to grow; once a space designated for food preparation, this versatile room is now the heart of the home, used for dining, entertaining and general living.

The necessity for flexibility – therefore – continues to increase, as does the trend for ‘open-plan’ living. The good news is that a well-designed island can satisfy all such requirements.

A custom-built island provides storage, work space, and a place to gather. Our beautiful solid wood kitchen worktops can be fabricated exactly to your requirements, and additions such as radius corners and ellipse ends can be used to create aesthetically pleasing curves and extra surface space. The introduction of ‘tiers’, perhaps in a different timber for contrast, can also be made to great effect.

Our Chatham and Cotswold door frontals will be finished to your preference, allowing you to continue the established colour scheme within your solid oak kitchen or to make a statement by finishing your island in an accent colour. Our Wimborne Inspiration features a matching island, which heightens and expands the existing colour scheme, whereas our Eclectic design injects a burst of colour with a blue island (hand painted in Farrow & Ball’s Lulworth Blue) standing in contrast to the rest of the cabinetry, which boasts a natural lacquer finish.

Please browse our kitchens or case studies sections for more examples of the wonderful versatility afforded by our furniture; we’re confident that you will not be disappointed.
