Luxury Kitchen Designs Create Unmissable Homes

The designers at Joseph & Kingsley passionately believe that the kitchen is a vital part of any home – an unsurprising fact, perhaps, given that they work with kitchens every single day! – and it appears that national newspaper The Telegraph also shares this view. We were pleased to read a recently-published and informative article in their property section entitled ‘We’re looking for: houses with a stylish family kitchen’ which explored three houses that are currently for sale and contain kitchens sure to tempt any home-buyer.

The kitchens were certainly the main attraction in The Telegraph’s eyes; dubbed ‘kitchens you’ll never want to leave’, these three rooms were the focus of the article and, implicitly, the focus of the home.

Kitchen Pick 1: ‘Cumbrian Farmhouse’. A beautiful country look. A mix of granite and wooden worktops paired wonderfully with wooden cabinets painted in duck-egg blue. An AGA and walk-in larder completed the homely yet enticing aesthetic.

Our recommendation for a similar look: the Eclectic Inspiration. This bright, inviting kitchen includes a feature island with oak cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball’s Lulworth Blue, rustic super stave country oak worktops, and an eyecatching butchers block.

Kitchen Pick 2: ‘Surrey Detached’. A modern and welcoming family room. Fabulous oak worktops, white frontals and bar handles created a sense of light and space. A delicate Belfast sink was a practical and attractive finishing touch.

Our recommendation for a similar look: the Wimborne Inspiration. Featuring the slightly darker, varied tones of American walnut worktops, a sense of modern brightness is nonetheless captured perfectly in this popular Joseph & Kingsley kitchen. Little touches such as bar handles, open cabinetry, and beautifully painted Traditional-style (Cotswold) frontals in Farrow & Ball’s Wimborne White produce an overall aesthetic that is both alluring and contemporary.

Kitchen Pick 3: ‘Warwickshire Country House’. A large kitchen with luxurious modern appliances and rustic touches. The focus of this design was a run of unpainted, warm wooden frontals, with carved pilasters and ornate timber features. An impressive range cooker and large American fridge updated the ‘country contemporary’ look.

Our recommendation for a similar look: the Classic Cotswold Inspiration. Rich iroko worktops and lacquered oak cabinets give the rustic and quaint appeal that proved so charming in the Warwickshire kitchen, with moulded pilasters and delicate ogee edge-profiling providing a decorative element. A sense of modern flair is achieved with red accent colours and innovative appliances (including a stunning range cooker).

Literature Festival 2013 Competition Winner and Ginger Pig Event

The weather was a little stormy last Thursday but fortunately that didn’t stop a good crowd from turning out to our free Cheltenham Literature Festival Q&A with Nicola Swift, Creative Food Director of butchery experts The Ginger Pig.

As we tucked into some nibbles – washed down with a glass of bubbly or two – Nicola answered questions on everything from what to buy and cook at Christmas, to how to make bacon, to animal welfare. Our superb end-grain butchers blocks also caught Nicola’s eye, we were pleased to note; these solid wood chopping blocks are constructed from the end grain, which is not only extremely resilient (and perfect for direct cutting) but also looks very attractive in its recognisable ‘chequerboard’ formulation. Please do come and see us again if The Ginger Pig requires any new chopping boards, Nicola – we’d be delighted to be of service!

Last – but certainly not least – Nicola announced the winner of our festival competition prize (£2,500 off a Joseph & Kingsley kitchen plus two signed Ginger Pig books). Our victor was Dorcas Jones; congratulations! We were thrilled that Dorcas was able to attend the event and look forward to working with her on a stunning new kitchen in the near future.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to Nicola for imparting her wisdom and keeping us all entertained – the Ginger Pig certainly brightened up what was a rather cold, rainy afternoon in Cheltenham!
